A lesson from Malaysia and Media Culture

Image
Through all the lectures, tutorials and the activities, I truly learned a lot about cultures and religions, which comes from people. races, gender and et cetera. Not just watching documentaries, movies or videos in every lectures and tutorials, going to every field trips, but I can see the connection between the cultures and the media are much important to spread from an individual to the people in the whole world. From the start we attend the class, we had learned what words to tell our country. After that, we start to discuss our history of Malaysia and start to talk about the art and cultures in Malaysia. I wasn't learned much from the start because I am not familiar with Malaysia's elements include films and videos that produced in the local area since 18 or 19 centuries of generations. Maybe I have too much influential from western's culture, so I didn't know what's more we had in Malaysia. Through Dr Carmen Nge lectured about every topics we discussed, I know...

A Biggest Impact

Monday 17th of April, it was a day to do the presentation. I tried my best to present it but not good enough. What I learned during the presentation session time, is to know what is the importance of delivering message of the story we constructed. The biggest problem we faced that we were not covering with Chinese temple but appeared with the story of the founder in the documentary. Therefore I think that, audience will not get interesting on the topic of documentary. I can say that we were being "threat" by the organizer of that particular temple because he wasn't allow us to talk about the dark history between the founder and the temple's statue. I can understand how they felt if the history exposed to the media industries. However, if the truth of the history always keep distance and secret. Consequently, everyone will not known this story forever. The documentaries that I watched are fascinating to produce. In my opinion, the best of the documentary always goes...

Through this trip assignment, I learned about the culture can be influence us throughout the people, objects and subjects that we discussed to the media and the audience.Without these elements, we really dunno there's have an interesting story behind from these elements and follow to learn and believe the existence of these elements. From the day we started to interview people around area of Penang, we started to explore more places that we rarely see in the city areas. We are taking a break and enjoy watching scenery. Credits by Ong Jiong Zheng                            The first time we discussed about this topic, I only 30 percent of knowledge from this topic because I totally didn't know what was the goddess they talked about and why was not known by other people in other country. Was just a religion's practice in a secret way or it is just only an untold story? Until the founder was describing his journ...

Bukan Budaya Kita

In Malaysia, culture was part of lifestyle from Independence Day until nowadays. I believe culture helps people who really loves this country. However, when the policies implement in Malaysia was done by the government. In the article written by Kathy Rowland, the article described about the how the values and the respondent was reacting towards this NCP. The three principle states created by NCP are: 1.      National Cultures would be based on that of the indigenous inhabitants(Bumiputra/Malays). 2.      Elements from other cultures which are suitable and reasonable might be incorporated into the national culture. 3.      Islam would be a crucial component of the National Culture. Overall these principles ruled in our country and it feels everyone living in this country must have to obey all these rules? I definitely feel bad based on the NCP’s principle. NCP was done was not making any sense that we are Malaysi...
