A lesson from Malaysia and Media Culture

Image
Through all the lectures, tutorials and the activities, I truly learned a lot about cultures and religions, which comes from people. races, gender and et cetera. Not just watching documentaries, movies or videos in every lectures and tutorials, going to every field trips, but I can see the connection between the cultures and the media are much important to spread from an individual to the people in the whole world. From the start we attend the class, we had learned what words to tell our country. After that, we start to discuss our history of Malaysia and start to talk about the art and cultures in Malaysia. I wasn't learned much from the start because I am not familiar with Malaysia's elements include films and videos that produced in the local area since 18 or 19 centuries of generations. Maybe I have too much influential from western's culture, so I didn't know what's more we had in Malaysia. Through Dr Carmen Nge lectured about every topics we discussed, I know

A Biggest Impact

Monday 17th of April, it was a day to do the presentation. I tried my best to present it but not good enough. What I learned during the presentation session time, is to know what is the importance of delivering message of the story we constructed. The biggest problem we faced that we were not covering with Chinese temple but appeared with the story of the founder in the documentary. Therefore I think that, audience will not get interesting on the topic of documentary. I can say that we were being "threat" by the organizer of that particular temple because he wasn't allow us to talk about the dark history between the founder and the temple's statue. I can understand how they felt if the history exposed to the media industries. However, if the truth of the history always keep distance and secret. Consequently, everyone will not known this story forever. The documentaries that I watched are fascinating to produce. In my opinion, the best of the documentary always goes

A Reflection

Through this trip assignment, I learned about the culture can be influence us throughout the people, objects and subjects that we discussed to the media and the audience.Without these elements, we really dunno there's have an interesting story behind from these elements and follow to learn and believe the existence of these elements. From the day we started to interview people around area of Penang, we started to explore more places that we rarely see in the city areas. We are taking a break and enjoy watching scenery. Credits by Ong Jiong Zheng                            The first time we discussed about this topic, I only 30 percent of knowledge from this topic because I totally didn't know what was the goddess they talked about and why was not known by other people in other country. Was just a religion's practice in a secret way or it is just only an untold story? Until the founder was describing his journey and his story between the Goddess and him.I had 90 per

Bukan Budaya Kita

In Malaysia, culture was part of lifestyle from Independence Day until nowadays. I believe culture helps people who really loves this country. However, when the policies implement in Malaysia was done by the government. In the article written by Kathy Rowland, the article described about the how the values and the respondent was reacting towards this NCP. The three principle states created by NCP are: 1.      National Cultures would be based on that of the indigenous inhabitants(Bumiputra/Malays). 2.      Elements from other cultures which are suitable and reasonable might be incorporated into the national culture. 3.      Islam would be a crucial component of the National Culture. Overall these principles ruled in our country and it feels everyone living in this country must have to obey all these rules? I definitely feel bad based on the NCP’s principle. NCP was done was not making any sense that we are Malaysia people and they make us to become one of their groups eth

Principle of Rukun Negara Malaysia

Image
Last week in the lecture class, Dr Carmen gave us a task about finding the principle of Rukun Negara. Is it a good things to learn back again or is a nightmare for me?Well, at least I able to discover on what is it and how's the Rukun Negara coming from. Rukun Negara, called that National Principle,is the Malaysian declaration which Malaysian people will institute the national philosophy from the independent day until nowadys. The v ision of the Rukun Negara is for the realization of the social contract agreed upon by the major races and d octrine to achieve unity for the sake of harmony and prosperity since the reaction to the race riot of 13 May incident happened in Malaysia .  It was formulated and held by the national consultative council (NCC) Tunku Abdul Razak. The aim of creating Rukun Negara is to harmonize and unite among races in Malaysia. From the text of the Rukun Negara, I searched from the Wikipedia.com and tried to understand the whole idea of the principle

In last Monday class, we were sitting chair and watching an 2 hours plus Movie(My butt is hurted~just kidding). That movie called "Putri Gunung Ledang". Because it's called Malaysian Movie and it's got 10 questions to ask us when we were watching it all the time.                                                        This movie tells a myth story about a princess Gusti Putri left her palace and live in Gunung Ledang. She was hoping lover Hang Tuah will live in Gunung Ledang forever since they met and fall in love. The King from Majapahit Kingdom is angry because of Denak Kingdom is attacking Majapahit Kingdom.  Therefore, Gusti Adipati offers his sister Gusti Putri to marriage with Sultan of Demak. In 11th January 2017, Lecturers and classmates (Include me!) were going to Kuala Lumpur Conventional Center (KLCC) to exhibit the art and culture in Malaysia and also some other country like Philippines or Singapore. We departed the first destination where at the Petronas Art Gallery in Suria KLCC. We have discovered the art gallery called Wayang U-Wei : Hanyut Merentasi Saksi, which is the current exhibition in that week. The exhibition is about the Malay Historical film the film director produced and exhibit their works including their procedure and some artwork shown in the gallery. All the edges and sides I have discovered, I still like the art because the art itself has its meaning and the story background in a piece of artwork. However, I choose the one that I really appreciate and love the art will be this artwork, I dun remembered what is this artwork called but it does attract me when I found out that the artist from this artwork is not simply coloring with meaningless, it pict

People's Constitution in Malaysia

This week, the class is given a lesson about how Malayan Union comes to Malaya until it became an independent country in year 1957 and also given a topics about automatic citizenship in Malaysia. When it came a topic called People's Constitution in Malaysia, I felt unfamiliar with it. According to my research and understanding from this term,it defines as a supreme laws in Malaysia that set by the representative of Reid Commission and the later of the Cobbold Commission before the independence day in year 1957.It also means the responsible and the right of the federal government and the member and also the citizens in every state federal to follow the laws.It contains structures and schedules and so on in the content of constitutions.Although I am not familiar with those rules, but it was the basic living in a country that has the rule and citizen need to follow without making any incidents happen in the country. It is fixed and implemented throughout all the year. If I

If I start to share with the first day of having Chinese New Year until day 5 of Chinese New Year, I just probably tell that every Chinese New Year season always need to go back hometown and visit grandparents, relatives and also friends around hometown. However, If I just said there's something different than just visiting relatives at hometown, that's won't bored me at all. On the first day of Chinese New Year, My whole family visited my father's side grandparent. We just eat their home cook new year dishes but we also went to "future daughter-in-law"'s house and visit them.I wonder why need so hurry to meet their family, but it doesn't matter to me since they treat us a steamboat as our dinner. They seem nice to us and I also knew that they speak Fujian Language. We didn't much about that because my dad is the GuangDongs and my mom is the Hakkas. Also,we went to watched a movie called "Kung Fu Yoga"(it's nice to watch the whole stor
